[ Built to hold up ]

A mark, anda world for it.

Logos, systems and guidelines, built to hold at the size of a favicon and at the size of a building.

The FORSA identity carried into a product interface

What makes a mark usable is everything around it: the type, the grid, the color rules, and a document that settles arguments about all three.

You get the working files (every format, an icon set, the type licences named) plus guidelines written for whoever inherits this after you.

[ The process ]

An identity is one mark put under five different pressures, in this order. Anything that fails a stage goes back a stage.

  1. Phase 01

    Drawn on a grid

The mark is constructed before it is styled. Geometry, weights, and the relationships that hold it together, all kept as a drawing anyone can rebuild from. A mark that only exists as a finished picture can't be corrected later, only redrawn.

  2. Phase 02

    Resolved as art

Then it becomes the thing itself. Curves closed, optical corrections made by eye, and color chosen last, so the mark has to work in one weight of black first.

  3. Phase 03

    Tested small

The first real test is the smallest one: an app icon, a favicon, a stamp on a card. Detail that disappears at 24 pixels is detail the identity can't rely on, and it is cheaper to find that out here than in a print run.

  4. Phase 04

    Tested in use

A system is only proven inside a live layout, on a screen with real copy in it, real data and real edge cases. This is where the type scale, spacing rules and color ratios get fixed, because this is where they first get argued with.

  5. Phase 05

    Tested at scale

The last pressure is size: the mark built at the size of a building, where weight, spacing and material behave nothing like they did on screen. Whatever survives all five is what gets written into the manual.
